Self Rescue

Accidents can happen to anyone. Some simple rescue skills can get you out of a bind before it becomes a full on epic.

This is a two day course on risk assessment and self-rescue on technical rock climbs. We will learn various technical skills to get off of a single or multi-pitch climb quickly and safely should an accident occur. In addition, we will talk about ways to build habits that can prevent accidents from happening.

Some of the skills we will learn are:

-Using Leave No Trace (LNT) principles to keep us safe

-Scouting the approach, descent and route finding

-Managing risk

-Friction hitches

-Releasable hitches

-Ascending a rope from rappel

-Lowering climber from above

-Passing knots while lowering

-Rappelling with a patient

-Hauling systems with mechanical advantages

This class is for everyone from entry level trad and sport climbers to big wall climbers. Students should have at least 3 months of climbing experience (inside or outdoors). They must be confident in belaying and tying in.
